SAN JUANITO WINERY
The Story
"When we arrived there was nothing ...
It is in part thanks to the Peña de Bernal that our project exists; in ancient times it was known as Ma'hando in Otomí language or De'hendo in Chichimeca and it was considered the gateway of a sacred territory; for our family it captivated us in a way that made us want to establish in the region and put in the effort of what was about to come.
10 years ago we undertook the challenge of establishing from scratch our vineyard and later the winery in a region that had once seenbetter days, and it is with that challenge that we also found the gems, one of them being an incredible amount of liberty as we are not bound by the rules of a DO, we find exiting and consider ourselves lucky to be at a time and on a place where we can experiment, propose, fail, propose again, challenge the status quo and come up with wines through which we can share our family's journey and passion for the land.
We are strong believers that the winemaking process starts in the vineyard and that has led us to only make wine from grapes grown in our property, that way we can also put into the bottle whatever was going on at the time, every bottle is a part of us and our history."
