BARRIGÓN

 

The Story: 

 

The project was founded by Xaime Niembro in 2020. After 10 years of producing mezcal in Oaxaca, he decided to explore the diverse range of ingredients that the Mexican soil offers and the endless variety of delicious beverages that can be created from them. The wine industry has forgotten how to respect and take care of our fields. Quantityhas become more important than quality, and little by little westarted to pay less attention to everything that industrial wine contains nowadays. We want to change that. We want an unbound wine that honors its origin, the soil, and the hands that make it. We would translate Barrigón as paunchy, someone with a big belly.

This really stuck to us as a great name because everything you eat or drink should make you feel happy; it should be something you enjoy. Our name embraces the idea of enjoying life as it is: essentially endearing and kind of imperfect, and good wine is just that: an imperfect piece of art.

For us, each vintage is the reflection of what happened out in the field + the work put into making a wine with no pretenses. These are wines made for everyday life; for a Tuesday night with friends, drinking a glass by the pool or alongside a delicious meal.
