BRUMA
The Story
Bruma was launched with the intention of establishing the premier wine brand in Mexico. The founders dared to envision a project that went beyond the general perceptions of the time. In addition to the winery (Bruma), they created top-tier lodging (Casa Ocho, Casa Montaña and Ático) and operate one of Valle de Guadalupe’s finest dining destinations (Fauna). To ensure long-term success, renowned winemaker Lulu Martinez Ojeda and acclaimed chef David Hussong joined as partners in Bruma and Fauna, respectively.
The Location
The property is located in the Northern most end of Valle de Guadalupe. Approximately 40% of Bruma’s total production comes from estate-grown fruit. The remaining fruit is sourced from Lulu’s uncle who is a legendary grape grower in Valle de San Vicente.
Since 2021, Bruma has embraced organic practices in its vineyards, fostering a more sustainable approach to winemaking. Animals play a key role in reinforcing the natural cycles of soil regeneration, while compost production and natural ground cover help preserve the vitality of the land. The winery itself is constructed using recycled materials, and in its production processes, Bruma avoids the use of tinfoil, with 75% of the cardboard sourced from recycled materials.
The Winemaker
Lourdes “Lulu” Martinez Ojeda, formerly of Bodegas Henri Lurton, is the winemaker/partner at Bruma. Lulu learned her craft working at Chateau Brane-Cantenac in Margaux for 10+ years.
Bruma focuses on crafting wines designed to complement cuisine, using minimal intervention and small production techniques that showcase the true essence of Baja’s terroir.
